Great news! Jamie-Leigh Brailey, who has now been with us at the salon for the past two and a half years, has been chosen as Bromley College Beauty Student of the Year 2007. As you all know, she started with us on work experience and through hard work and dedication, has earned herself a position as a permanent member of our professional team. We all know that, to stop climate change, we need to stop burning fossil fuels. The government says we need nuclear power to do this, and wants to start building a new generation of power stations. Not only will this cost billions, take decades to complete and leave a legacy of radioactive waste, the plan won't stop climate change.
To illustrate the point, we've made a new film. It explains how nuclear power is a dangerous distraction and offers up a better, cheaper, more convenient solution. In fact, that's the title - The Convenient Solution. Don't be fooled into thinking it's another doom-mongering documentary - it isn't, and it even involves beer.

Our biggest single use of fossil fuels in the UK isn't for electricity or for transport, but for creating heat to warm our buildings and power our industrial processes. Nuclear power contributes almost nothing to our enormous heating requirements. You might be surprised to learn that it contributes less than four per cent to our overall energy needs. Building new nuclear power stations will only replace the current ones we have and won't increase nuclear's contribution to the energy mix.
So what's the solution? Well, in the same amount of time and for less money, we could implement an energy system that will do far more to stop climate change than nuclear power: a combination of renewables like wind, wave and tidal power, and combined heat and power stations which generate heat and electricity at the same time and are far more efficient than our current fleet of power stations.
